Utah Real Estate Sales Agent Exam Exam Guide

The exam is built from two separately scored portions: a national/general portion and a Utah state-law portion. The state-law portion draws from several content areas outlined in the official exam content outline:

• Closing Statements -- 6-8 items
• Licensing -- 8 items
• Enforcement -- 4-5 items
• Real Estate Office Procedures -- 4-5 items
• Additional State Topics (Utah water rights, adverse possession, Statute of Frauds, Lien Recovery Act) -- 1-3 items
• Real Estate Education, Research and Recovery Fund -- 1-2 items
• Definitions -- 3 items
• Property Management -- 3 items

Candidates must also complete 120 classroom hours of salesperson prelicensing education before sitting for the exam.

The examination fee is $69, paid at the time of reservation by credit card, debit card, or voucher. Fingerprinting is billed separately: Pearson VUE's candidate handbook cites a $35 fingerprint appointment fee, while the Utah Division of Real Estate's published fee schedule lists a $32 fingerprint processing fee, so candidates should confirm the current amount with the appropriate agency. The state fee schedule also lists a $154 new sales agent application fee and a $102 total license renewal fee.

The general/national portion consists of 80 scored items plus 5 unscored pretest items. The state-law portion consists of 50 scored items plus 5-10 unscored pretest items. Candidates have 4 hours total to complete both portions in a single sitting and must earn a scaled score of 70 on each section to pass. Candidates who pass one section but fail the other may retake only the failed section within 6 months, and must wait 24 hours after any failed attempt before scheduling a retake.
