Alabama Real Estate Salesperson Exam Exam Guide

The exam is split into a general portion of 80 scored items (2.5 hours) and a state-specific portion of 40 scored items (1 hour), for a total testing time of 3.5 hours. A handful of unscored pretest items -- 10 to 15 -- are also mixed in but don't count toward your score.

You need a scaled score of 70 on a 0-100 scale to pass. The Alabama Real Estate Commission governs licensing, while Pearson VUE develops and administers the exam itself.

The salesperson exam fee is $73, paid directly to Pearson VUE when you schedule your test. This is separate from the cost of your 60-clock-hour prelicense course and any application fees.

You must be at least 19 years old and have successfully completed an approved 60-clock-hour prelicense course with a minimum course grade of 70. You must also sit for the exam within 6 months of finishing that course.

Once authorized, you get unlimited attempts to pass within a 6-month authorization window at any Pearson VUE test center. If you don't pass within that 6-month period, you'll need to retake the prelicense course and get re-authorized before testing again.

You have 90 days from your passing date to submit a complete license application with fees to the Alabama Real Estate Commission. Your initial salesperson license is temporary and expires one year after issuance, during which you must complete a 30-clock-hour postlicense course.
