The Florida Class E Knowledge Exam is the written test for a Class E learner's licence, which may be issued from age 15 to an applicant who also passes a vision and hearing examination and completes the required education course.
Florida is one of the few states that publishes its exam format, which makes preparation unusually concrete: you know the length, and you know the margin.

The exam is 50 multiple-choice questions covering traffic laws, safe driving practices and identifying traffic controls, and 40 correct answers are needed to pass — exactly 80 percent. That leaves a margin of ten wrong answers, and the useful question is where to spend them.
Not on signs and markings, which are national and stable. The errors cluster in three Florida-specific rules: the Move Over law, which has two branches rather than one; the school bus exception, which requires a raised barrier or an unpaved median at least five feet wide and explicitly does not count painted lines; and the under-21 alcohol rule at 0.02, which brings an immediate six-month suspension.
Cost and registration
Licence and permit fees are set by FLHSMV and depend on the licence class and the applicant's age.
The penalties are stated as minimums rather than ceilings. A school bus violation carries a minimum fine of $265, rising to a minimum of $465 if you pass on the side where children enter and exit the bus. For a driver under 21, a first reading of 0.02 or above means an immediate six-month suspension, a second means one year, and a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course must be completed before hardship reinstatement.
