TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (391) Exam Exam Guide

It's a computer-administered test made up of five separate Subject Exams covering English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, totaling 210 selected-response questions. You can take all five in one appointment or schedule individual Subject Exams separately.

You need a scaled score of 240 on each individual Subject Exam. There's no single combined passing score; TEA simply reports your overall result as Passed or Not Passed once you've cleared all five.

Taking all five Subject Exams together costs $116 total, or $58 for a single Subject Exam if you register for one separately. Additional fees may apply depending on your registration situation, so confirm current charges against the official Pearson/NES fee schedule before you register.

Your total appointment runs 300 minutes (5 hours), which includes a 15-minute tutorial and compliance agreement at the start before the actual test time begins. Each Subject Exam also has its own time allotment within that window.

The five Subject Exams are English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education. By weight, English Language Arts and Reading and Science each count for 21.5% of the total, and Mathematics counts for 19%, with Social Studies and Fine Arts/Health/PE making up the remainder.
