Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (5752) Exam Guide

Reading runs 85 minutes with 56 selected-response questions drawn from passages and statements; every question is answerable from the text alone, with no outside knowledge required. Writing runs 100 minutes in three separately timed sections — a 40-minute, 40-question selected-response section covering usage, sentence correction, revision-in-context, and research skills, plus two 30-minute essays. Mathematics runs 90 minutes with 56 questions across Number and Quantity; Data Interpretation, Statistics, and Probability; and Algebra and Geometry, in a mix of selected-response and numeric-entry formats.

There is no national passing score: each state sets its own cut score per subtest, and a growing number accept substitutes for Core, so checking your state's current requirements is step one.

The Core Combined test (5752) costs $150 and covers all three subtests in one registration and one session. Registration includes four free score recipients — name your program and state agency up front and score delivery costs nothing extra.

Whether to buy the combined sitting or register subtests separately is a prep decision as much as a financial one: combined testing suits candidates near the cut score on all three diagnostics, while separate registration lets a weak subtest — most often Mathematics — get focused preparation without risking the other two on the same day. A passed subtest stays passed either way.

All three subtests are computer-delivered, and the exam is available both at home under remote proctoring and at test centers — an at-home option that remains uncommon among licensure exams. Home testers need a quiet private room, a webcam, and an advance system check.

Every subtest may include unscored pretest questions mixed in without identification, so the only correct strategy is to answer everything with equal effort. The Combined session runs the three subtests back-to-back — roughly four and a half hours of seat time — while separate appointments spread the load. Essay responses are scored separately from the selected-response section of Writing, and scores are reported per subtest against your state's own passing standard.
