CCMA (NHA) Exam — Quick Cheat Sheet
The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam is administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Memorize these hard numbers first — they anchor your test-day plan.
Must-Remember Numbers
- 150 scored questions on the exam.
- 180 minutes (3 hours) to complete it.
- Passing score: 390 or higher (scaled).
- Exam fee: $165 USD.
Pacing Math (do this in your head on test day)
With 180 minutes for 150 scored questions, that's roughly 1.2 minutes (about 72 seconds) per question. Aim to finish the first pass with time left to review flagged items.
- Halfway checkpoint: be at ~question 75 by the ~90-minute mark.
- If a question stalls you past ~1 minute, flag it and move on — never let one item eat your buffer.
Scoring — What "Scaled" Means
Your reported result is a scaled score, and the cut point is 390. A scaled score is not a raw percentage of questions correct, so don't try to convert "X right out of 150" into the 390 threshold — treat 390 simply as the pass/fail line NHA reports.
Registration & Cost Snapshot
- Budget the $165 exam fee when planning your attempt.
- Confirm scheduling and eligibility details directly with NHA before booking.
Test-Day Rules of Thumb
- Answer every question — with a fixed 150-item, scaled-scored format, leaving blanks only forfeits chances to reach 390.
- Reserve the final minutes to revisit flagged questions.
- Track your pace against the ~72-second-per-question budget throughout.
