The annual table does not split first attempts from retakes. It also lists active certifications, which is a stock of credentials, not the denominator for this pass rate. Do not substitute that figure for the number of exams.
Pass rate and passing score answer different questions
The pass rate describes the outcomes of a group. The passing score is the standard an individual must meet. NHA reports a scaled passing score of 390/500. Dividing 390 by 500 does not establish the percentage of raw answers you must get right.
Put the rate in the current exam context
The CCMA appointment allows 180 minutes. The test plan describes 150 scored items and 30 pretest items, for 180 delivered items in all. After certification, NHA uses a two-year renewal cycle and requires 10 continuing-education credits.
