The numbers to remember

• National portion: 80 scored items + 5 unscored pretest items, 2.5 hours.
• Wyoming state portion (salesperson): 40 scored items + 5-10 unscored pretest items, 1.5 hours.
• Passing score: scaled 75 on a 0-100 scale, on each portion separately.
• Fee per portion: $80 at a test center, $90 via OnVUE online proctoring.
• Retake wait: 24 hours before rescheduling a failed portion.
• Failed-portion deadline: pass it within 6 months of your first passed portion.
• Application deadline: file within 90 days of passing.
• License fee: $300. Fingerprint fee: $39 with 2 fingerprint cards.
• Exam voucher validity: 12 months from issuance.
• Pre-licensing hours: 30 class hours minimum for salesperson (60 cumulative for responsible broker).

Content domains and weights

National portion — effective April 1, 2025. Property descriptions and property use alone carries 11 items (6 knowledge, 3 application, 2 analysis); the rest of the national outline draws from ownership, contracts, agency, financing, appraisal, disclosure, and closing.

Wyoming state portion — effective January 1, 2021.

• Additional topics: 11-13 items.
• Licensing procedures: 7-9 items (salesperson).
• The licensing agency's powers: 2-5 items.

High-yield review areas

• Licensing requirements and licensee activities — largest state-portion domain by item count; review it first and longest.
• Property descriptions and property use — the one national domain with a published item count; expect application- and analysis-level items, not just recall.
• Statutory content areas: business ethics, composition, arithmetic, land economics/appraisal, and Wyoming statutes on deeds, mortgages, contracts, and agency.
• Application-and-licensing sequence: National Exam, then State Exam, then license application — know the order before test day so post-exam paperwork isn't a surprise.

Top traps

• Treating the exam as one test: it's two separately timed, separately scored portions, each needing its own scaled 75.
• Forgetting the fee is per portion, not per appointment ($80 test center / $90 OnVUE, each portion).
• Letting the 6-month clock run out on a failed second portion after passing the first.
• Missing the 90-day application window after passing both portions.
• Letting an issued exam voucher expire after 12 months.
• Assuming a below-75 score is a raw percent correct — it's a scaled score meant to show how close you came, not a percentage.
