The numbers to remember

• Time limit: 4 hours for both portions combined.
• National portion: 80 scored items + 5 unscored pretest items.
• State-specific portion (salesperson): 40 scored items + 5-10 unscored pretest items.
• Passing score: scaled 70 (0-100 scale) for salesperson; broker candidates need 75.
• Exam fee: $83, paid in advance — not accepted at the test center.
• License application fee: $135.
• Application processing: minimum 10 business days once submitted.
• Minimum age: 18.
• Reservation lead time: book online at least 24 hours before your desired exam date.
• Arrival: report to the test center 30 minutes before your start time.
• Prelicense education: 90 hours total (two 45-hour modules).
• Testing sites: 5 in-state locations — Boise, Coeur d'Alene, Nampa, Pocatello, Twin Falls.

• License Law and Rules of the Idaho Real Estate Commission — 40%
• Idaho Principles and Practices — 15%
• Licensing Requirements — 10%
• Duties and Powers of the Real Estate Commission — 5%
• Calculations and Closing Costs — 5% (10% for broker candidates)

Brokerage Management (20%) appears only on the broker exam — skip it for the salesperson sitting.

High-yield review areas

• License Law and Rules carries the single largest weight (40%) — prioritize it above every other topic the night before.
• Calculations and Closing Costs is only 5%, but rushed math under time pressure is a common point-loss trap even for well-prepared candidates — slow down on these items.
• Know both passing scores (70 salesperson / 75 broker) so you don't second-guess yourself if you see the broker number referenced anywhere in prep materials.

Top traps

• Arriving late: you must report 30 minutes before your start time — arriving later can mean losing the seat entirely.
• Booking too close to test day: reservations require at least 24 hours' advance notice online — this is not a same-day option.
• Letting a passed section expire: if you pass one part and fail the other, you have exactly one year from the date you passed the first part to retake and pass the second, and you must complete your license application within one year of that first pass.
• Trying to pay at the test center: the $83 exam fee must be paid in advance — the test center will not accept payment on-site.
• Rushing a retake: after a fail, you must wait 24 hours before a new reservation can even be made, and it can't be booked at the test center.
