The numbers to remember

• National portion: 100 questions, 150 minutes, 70% to pass.
• State-law portion: 40 questions, 120 minutes, 75% to pass — the harder cut score despite fewer questions.
• Exam fee: $52 flat, whether you take one or both portions in a single sitting. Retake fee: also $52.
• 5 to 10 unscored experimental questions may be mixed into either portion — you cannot identify which ones they are, so treat every question as scored.
• Tutorial: up to 15 minutes before the clock starts, and that time is not counted against your exam time.
• Minimum age to sit: 18. Prelicense course: 48 hours. Post-pass practice course (MREP): 24 hours, required before you submit your license application.
• License application due within 6 months of finishing the 48-hour course.
• Registration fee expires after 1 year if unused — schedule before it lapses.
• Exam vendor is PSI Services LLC; phone scheduling typically books within about 7 business days.

Content domains and weights

• National: Contracts ~19% (largest published weight on the outline), Agency ~13%. The rest of the National portion draws on general real-estate fundamentals like ownership, valuation, financing, and title transfer.
• State law (by outline items): Business Conduct and Practices (17), Listing/Offer/Closing Forms and Costs (12), Disciplinary Proceedings (8), Licenses (7), Brokerage Relationships (6), Educational Requirements (2), General Rules (2).

High-yield review areas

• Contracts and Agency together anchor the National portion — review offer/acceptance, contingencies, and fiduciary duties last, since they carry the most published weight.
• On the State side, Business Conduct and Practices and the closing-forms category cover the most outline ground — prioritize these over the two-item categories like General Rules.
• Know the license fee structure cold: $100 to apply/issue as a salesperson, $150 for broker-salesperson, $65 to renew — all nonrefundable once submitted.
• Reciprocity: an out-of-state licensee in good standing only sits for the State-law portion, not the National portion. Licensed attorneys skip education requirements but still must pass both exam portions.
• Fingerprinting for the background check runs through IDEMIA (IDENTOGO) — handle this separately from scheduling your exam appointment.

Top traps

• Assuming the exam fee is per-portion — it is $52 total for either or both, not $52 each.
• Forgetting the State portion needs 75%, not 70% — a harder bar despite having fewer questions and less time.
• Showing up without exactly 1 matching photo ID, or arriving after the 15-minute late cutoff — both forfeit your fee for that sitting.
