AWS SAA-C03 Pass Rate (2026): Real Numbers & What They Mean

AWS does not publish an official pass rate for the Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03) exam. Unlike some licensing bodies that release annual pass statistics, AWS keeps candidate performance data private, so any specific percentage you see quoted for this exam is an estimate from a third party, not an official figure. What AWS does publish — in detail — is how the exam is scored, what a passing result requires, and what the exam measures. That information is far more useful for planning your preparation than a headline percentage would be.

How the SAA-C03 exam is scored

According to AWS, the exam contains 65 questions in two formats: multiple choice and multiple response. Of those, only 50 questions affect your score; the remaining 15 are unscored items that AWS uses to evaluate future exam content. You won't know which questions are which, so every question deserves the same effort — but it also means a question that felt impossible may not have counted against you at all.

Results are reported on a scaled score from 100 to 1,000. AWS uses scaling rather than a raw percentage so that results are comparable across different exam forms, which may vary slightly in difficulty. Since AWS doesn't release pass-rate data, the best predictor of your outcome is how well your preparation matches what the exam actually weighs. AWS structures the SAA-C03 around four content domains, and the weighting tells you where the points are:

Experience matters too. AWS describes the target candidate as someone with at least 1 year of hands-on experience designing cloud solutions using AWS services. Candidates who attempt the exam from documentation alone, without having built and broken things in a real account, are working against the exam's scenario-driven format.

How to improve your odds

Study to the domain weights. Allocate your review time roughly in proportion to the 30/26/24/20 split rather than evenly across every service AWS offers.

Practice under exam conditions. Timed practice is the closest proxy you have for the real thing when no pass-rate benchmark exists. Work through a free AWS SAA-C03 practice exam under the real constraint — 65 questions, 130 minutes — and review every miss against the relevant domain.

Don't let one brutal question rattle you. With 15 unscored questions on the form, an unfamiliar question may be experimental. Answer it and move on.

Plan the logistics. The exam costs 150 USD, so an unprepared attempt is an expensive diagnostic. AWS Certification exams are delivered through Pearson VUE, with online proctoring available if you'd rather test from home. After you pass

The certification is valid for 3 years.
