There is no official AWS Certified AI Practitioner pass rate. Amazon Web Services builds, scores, and issues the AIF-C01 credential, and it publishes no figure for how many candidates pass — not on the certification product page, not in the exam guide, and not in the certification policy pages that document scoring and retakes. AWS publishes the bar. It does not publish the share of people clearing it. Every percentage circulating in 2026 as "the AI Practitioner pass rate" was produced by someone other than the organization that scores the exam, and this page is not going to add another one to the pile.
How the AWS Certified AI Practitioner exam is actually scored

Two of those rows do more work than the rest. The first is the gap between 65 and 50. The exam guide states that the exam "includes 50 questions that affect your score," and separately that it "includes 15 unscored questions that do not affect your score," which AWS uses to trial items for possible future use. The line that matters most follows immediately: "These unscored questions are not identified on the exam." Roughly one question in four that you agonize over on test day is not being counted at all, and nothing on screen tells you which.
A scaled score is not a percentage
The second is the 700, the most misread number in AWS certification and the direct cause of every page telling you that you need 70 percent. You do not. AWS reports results "as a scaled score of 100–1,000," and a scale whose floor is 100 rather than zero cannot be read as a percentage of anything. Nor is 700 a statement about this exam's difficulty. AWS applies one standard across an entire tier: "The passing standard is represented by a scaled score of 700 for Foundational-level exams, 720 for Associate-level exams, and 750 for Professional-level and Specialty exams."
There is also no fixed number of correct answers behind it. AWS sets the original raw standard with the modified Angoff technique — a panel of content experts estimating each question's difficulty relative to a minimally qualified candidate — then statistically equates every later exam form, a process that "determines if an adjustment to the passing standard is needed due to the differential difficulty of the questions making up the test form." Two people sitting different forms can answer a different number of questions correctly and receive the same scaled score. Any page telling you to "get 35 of 50 right" is describing a rule AWS does not operate.
Why the pass rates you see online disagree
Run the search and page one hands you numbers that cannot all be true at once. Figures in the 40s, the 60s, and the 70s and 80s sit within a few results of each other, for the same exam, in the same year. What they have in common is not a source. Not one of them cites AWS, because there is nothing at AWS to cite.
The incentive behind the low end is worth naming plainly. A training provider that tells you this exam has a brutal failure rate has, in the same sentence, explained why you need its course. A bootcamp reporting that its own students pass at 95 percent has explained why you need that bootcamp. Both numbers can be honestly measured inside their own population and still tell you nothing about your odds, because neither population is a random sample of AI Practitioner candidates.
This exam attracts more invention than most. It is one of AWS's newer credentials, so there is even less real material to aggregate, and the candidate AWS describes is deliberately broad: someone with "up to 6 months of exposure to AI/ML technologies on AWS" who "uses but does not necessarily build AI/ML solutions." AWS lists business analysts, IT support staff, marketing professionals, product managers, and sales professionals among the intended candidates. A single provider's cohort tells you even less than usual about a pool that wide.
What separates passing from failing candidates
The published domain weights are the closest thing to a real predictor, and they apply to the 50 scored questions rather than all 65. The approximate question counts below follow from that arithmetic; AWS publishes the percentages, not the counts.

Generative AI is the exam. Domains 2 and 3 together are 52 percent of scored content — 26 of the 50 questions that count. Foundation model selection, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation, and customization outrank classical machine learning by a wide margin.
Responsible AI and governance are quietly the biggest study block. Domains 4 and 5 are 28 percent combined, tying the largest single domain. They are vocabulary and policy rather than services, which is exactly why candidates skim them and then lose 14 questions they could have banked.
Studying like an ML engineer is a misallocation. The exam guide names what is out of scope, and the list is long: "Developing or coding AI/ML models or algorithms," "Performing hyperparameter tuning or model optimization," "Conducting mathematical or statistical analysis of AI/ML models," and "Building and deploying AI/ML pipelines or infrastructure." Preparation built on model-training tutorials is preparation for an exam AWS says it is not giving.
Partial credit mostly does not exist. On multiple response, "you must select all the correct responses to receive credit." Ordering and matching work the same way. Meanwhile unanswered questions are scored as incorrect and there is no guessing penalty, so leaving anything blank is a pure loss — and 90 minutes across 65 questions is about 83 seconds each.
One weak domain will not fail you. The guide is explicit: "The exam uses a compensatory scoring model, which means that you do not need to achieve a passing score in each section. You need to pass only the overall exam." AWS also cautions readers to "use caution when you interpret section-level feedback" on the score report, since those classifications are general rather than precise.
The bottom line
Nobody knows the AWS Certified AI Practitioner pass rate, including the people publishing confident numbers about it. What is official and verifiable is that 50 of the 65 questions count, you have 90 minutes, you need a scaled 700 on a 100–1,000 scale that is not a percentage and not specific to this exam, generative AI content is over half the scored material, and a failed attempt costs 14 days and another $100. Those facts are enough to build a study plan; a pass rate would not change a single decision inside it. The candidates who fail tend to fail on responsible AI and governance vocabulary and on service selection, not on the machine learning theory that the exam guide explicitly rules out of scope.
