TT Fire Service Requirements (2026): Who Qualifies & How

The short answer first: to be eligible under the most recent Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service recruitment drive, you had to be a citizen of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, aged not less than 18 and not more than 35, holding three CSEC/CXC/GCE passes at General Proficiency including compulsory English A, and of good character, to be verified by a Certificate of Character. Education: three passes, English A compulsory

The academic bar is three CSEC/CXC/GCE passes at General Proficiency. English A is the compulsory subject, at Grade I or II, or Grade III where the sitting was after 1998. The other two subjects are your choice; the notice names no preferred fields. 1. Register with EmployTT and create a profile on the platform.
2. Apply for the position while the window is open; in 2025 that meant 13 to 30 October.
3. Qualified applicants sit the Entrance Examination, set and managed by the Public Service Commission.
4. Successful candidates are listed in order of merit by the Commission.
5. Those selected take a Physical Aptitude Test administered by the Fire Service School.
6. Passers attend an interview before a Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service selection committee.
7. Successful interviewees undergo a Medical Examination by a Government Medical Officer.
8. Candidates clearing every stage are shortlisted for training at the Fire Service School.
9. Graduates who are in every respect fit become eligible for appointment as Firefighter, on probation for one year.

Because results are ranked in order of merit, the practical standard is competitive rather than fixed: you are aiming to outscore the field. Be sceptical of any source quoting a precise fee or pass percentage for this exam; the official documents contain neither.

Common disqualifiers and trip-ups

• Age outside the 18 to 35 band at screening.
• No English A pass, or English A at Grade III from a sitting in 1998 or earlier, since the notice accepts Grade III only after 1998.
• Fewer than three General Proficiency passes overall.
• Not holding citizenship of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
• An adverse Certificate of Character at the verification stage.
• Missing the application window; the 2025 notice made no provision for late submissions.
